Walking Buses

Can you help and get fit at the same time?!

Several years ago there were a number of exceptional parent volunteers who, with the help of the council, set up “Walking Buses” to school. The buses were well attended and meant that fewer cars had to park near school to drop children in the morning.

There are several proven benefits for children who walk to school:

  • Health and fitness is improved
  • Concentration in the classroom increased
  • Road safety skills are revised and imprinted in children’s awareness
  • Sociability and independence are encouraged.

We would very much like to be able to offer the Walking Buses to families again and as such are calling for willing volunteers who could commit to one or more mornings a week to run a walking bus. Full training is provided by the Council and you must hold a current DBS certificate.

Start locations of the walking buses are The Dittons, Ember Lane, Weston Green and Esher Road.

If you can help or would like more information please contact the Travel Team by email at travelteam@stpauls-thamesditton.surrey.sch.uk or leave a note with the school office for the attention of the Travel Team Co-ordinator.
